Our Community

Marty Zuniga is the son of a Union Painter and a Secretary who understands how hard families work to ensure they pass on a solid foundation to their children.

Growing up in Oakville, Marty knows that communities are an extension of our school, our church, and our family. Even as a boy, Marty studied his community, going so far as to put a giant city map on his bedroom wall. Today he represents our community, serving on the St. Louis County Parks Board.

A graduate of Oakville High School, Marty sought to serve our community in our State Capitol, and did so by working for Representative Sue Schoemehl. Marty has worked tirelessly elect officials into office who put the best interests of our families before their own political aspirations. Marty even took on a leadership role in creating ‘South County Votes’, an organization to inform voters of their rights as citizens to ensure our elected officials are “by the people, and for the people”. Marty became the organization’s liaison to the Missouri Democratic Party and was later requested by the Party Chairwoman to serve in Jefferson City.

Our Future

Enjoying his volunteer work, but seeing that to truly fight for our families you have to get your hands dirty, Marty is now seeking to broaden his responsibility to Oakville, and become its State Representative.

A good education means a good job. It doesn’t matter if you are preparing to enter the workforce for the first time, or continuing training to further your career, your access to a quality education matters to Marty. In the State Capitol Marty Zuniga will fight to stop the rising costs of education. Remembering the challenges he and his family faced to afford a college education, and seeing student loan opportunities diminish in today’s market, Marty will work to make college more affordable for working families.

Each year the State of Missouri funds Projects and Programs across our state. In Jefferson City, Marty will work to bring those dollars to Oakville. That means matching funds for buildings and sidewalks and safety services. It means seeing our roads get the attention they need. And it means working together to keep small businesses and good paying jobs in our area. We must align our economic development priorities to attract more good-paying jobs, so our children can afford to raise a family here too. That means investing in businesses and in people.

Marty will also fight for Life. As a Democrat – being pro-life goes beyond protecting the unborn. It means supporting early childhood education, providing adequate, affordable healthcare for children and adults, good schools, continuing education, and later in life, safe nursing homes, and affordable prescription drugs.

Marty Zuniga is a Contract Manager at MedAssets, where he negotiates a portfolio of nearly $80 million dollars in medical supply spending, but prefers summer afternoons with his family in the backyard of his family home where his parents, Michael and Paula Zuniga still reside after 37 years of marriage.
